Many of us may have already started saving and investing for future and some of us, who have not yet understood the importance of saving or who have not started saving because of various reasons. For most, getting started is difficult. So, here we shall see how we can kick-start saving.

  • Keep a check on what you spend on: Though this may seem a bit boring and very conventional, it is one of the basic steps to start saving. Only when you know your income and your expenses, can you get an understanding of whether you have any surplus to save. If there is no surplus, you have to cut down your expenses to SAVE. Keep a track of all your expenses and categorize them. See what is important and necessary. If the expenditure is on something that is not important or not necessary, then it needs to be cut. To do this, make a budget and stick to it. Don’t overspend.

  • Start saving TODAY: If you want to start saving, don’t make it a New Year resolution Start saving TODAY. Do it NOW. Start in a small way, but, START. See where you can cut down your expenditure and save it. Make a sincere effort to save at least Rs.10/day.

  • Set a goal: If you are still not able to start saving, then, set a goal. It really helps. Identifying a reason to save will inspire and motivate you to save until you reach your goal. Set a target to save money to buy your favorite watch or bike. You will get the motivation to save. Once you reach your goal, you may buy that thing or invest that money in something else. Set smaller goals and then move towards bigger goals like buying a house. Having a goal motivates you to save on a regular basis.

Each and every penny counts. Hence, start saving today to be able to afford what you need tomorrow and live a happy life. A penny saved is a penny earned.
